It asked many in-depth questions about what people thought of Port Huron and how they liked living here.The survey results are being tabulated by SC4 students who are using it for a class project.
They also want to be sure substandard rental units get the support for renovations and making sure they are converted to single family units.
Tasks that are underway include a short term Neighborhood Action Plan (things they can do quickly to get things started) and starting a program to regularly recognize community members for the good things they do to make our community better.
Also they will research quality of life issues in towns comparable to ours.
She ended her presentation by letting everyone know that they really want input from the citizens which can be done by emailing them at [email protected] attending the meetings which are on the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of the month at 5 p.m. Next was a presentation by Chief Don Porrett of the Port Huron Police Department's Annual Report.
Chief Porrett started out by sharing a few statistics.
In 2009 there was a decrease in all minor crimes, but an increase in homicides, sexual crimes, domestic abuse, etc. He has received 3 Federal grants that helped hire some officers and helped pay for several programs and the purchase of necessary equipment.In the later part of 2009, they saw the major increase in violent crimes so they partnered with the St.Clair County Sheriff's Department to form a major case squad so they could work together.Home THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE PORT HURON CITY COUNCIL - MONDAY, MARCH 22, 2010The Port Huron City Council met for their regular meeting at the Municipal Office Center at 7 p.m. Hilary stated that the group intended to update the Council quarterly. In September of 2009, the Commission was formed and charged to investigate causes of blight, neighborhood decay and the decline of Quality of Life in Port Huron. First on the agenda was a presentation from Hilary Bridge, Chair of the Quality of Life Commission who updated the City Council on what has been happening at their meetings.When they started, one of their first tasks was to look at tools and procedures that were already in place through the city planners office, address substandard rentals, identify tools for the council and to make recommendations to the council based on what they find.
